It hurts WAY more to do it yourself but you get the same results. Make sure you get a product like Nad's or something where you don't have pre-waxed strips. It's takes more work to warm up the wax and can get messy if you aren't careful, but TRUST ME. You do NOT want to have to wax the same area more than once because the strip didn't take off all the hair. Personally I use Poetic Waxing products. I get mine from Sephora.com they work really well and are the least painful I've tried. Cost about 50$ and last me 4 brazilian waxings.

You can do a bikini waxing at home, Nads is fine, I've never used it but I have a friend who does, and she says she likes it better than wax.

What you DON'T want to do is your own brazilian waxing - trust me this is best left to the professionals.

I've used waxing strips on my eyebrows and upper lip that worked.
However for the "bikini" area I would HIGHLY recommend you go to a salon to have it done. The skin has to be pulled tight and the hair has to pulled out in the correct direction - which is very difficult to do on yourself. Don't do it at home.
If you don't want to go to a salon, shave. Use a Venus or Quattro razor (don't go cheap on a razor for down there - they don't work well) and some shaving cream (makes shaving easier).

I would call several 'salon & spa' locations in your area asking:

-experience of estheticians in waxing the bikini area
-products used (what type of wax)

Either way you are going to have to sit in positions like you are at the gynocolegist, but with a Brazilian you have to let go of embarassment. They've seen it all before. Don't do either the day before or on your period, the pain is more intense. And don't forget to take 400 milligrams of ibuprofen before going in. The results are worth the pain, but the first time is the worst, after that it starts getting easier. Good luck!
